Thanks to a grant from WestEd, CRF is able to provide free professional development and curriculum resources focused on interactive classroom discussion strategies to teachers in California, Florida, and North Carolina. And best of all… the professional development is led by teachers!

Now is the perfect time to help your students become informed and engaged in productive, civil dialogue about the important issues we face now and in the future. This opportunity is open for middle and high school social studies and ELA teachers.

You’ll join a cohort facilitated by teacher leaders and be provided with:

  • A national kick-off webinar with all of the Teacher Leaders and cohorts from California, Florida, and North Carolina.

  • Two face-to-face sessions (Sept/Feb) where you’ll learn about the Civil Conversation discussion model and how to use simulation/role play activities as academic discussion to engage students in discussion about current events, controversial issues, historic issues and more.

  • You’ll have a chance to try out the strategies with a class of students and debrief with your cohort through a live webinar and in online discussions (asynchronous – no need to travel and schedule).

  • You will have first dibs to attend national webinars and receive free curriculum materials.

  • Opportunities to share ideas, challenges, and successes with teachers in Los Angeles, North Carolina, and Florida.

  • And… a stipend for your full participation!

Cohort Locations:

  • California: Los Angeles and San Diego (We have a cohort in Rancho Cucamonga, too!)

  • Florida: Brevard County, Duval County, and central Florida counties

  • North Carolina: Iredell Statesville County and Guilford County

  • For teachers unable to join a cohort, you can still participate in the Teacher-to-Teacher Collab:

    1. Register to take our free online Canvas course (Stipends are not available for online participants).
    2. Register to receive notices about free webinars and resources.
